Responsibilities
What is your position?
Are you working on projects? Which projects are you working on?
What responsibilities are within your role? What is outside your role?
Did you prepare by doing your research before asking for help?
Accountability
What are your deliverables?
Do you know when your deliverables are due?
Who is holding you accountable? Is it your peers? Your boss?
What metrics is your workplace using?
What are the consequences of not meeting those metrics/deadlines?
How are you taking responsibility for the results your actions drive? That is, if a project is delayed because of a miscommunication on your part, are you taking responsibility to sort it out?
If you have to drive results through others - how are you motivating them to do so?
How are you holding your team accountable?
Are you following up when the expectations you set for your team are not met?
Are there consequences for your team not meeting the target? If so – are those consequences clearly outlined?
Organizational structure
Do you know the organizational structure around you? Who is your boss? Who’s your boss’s boss? And who is their boss? Who else does your boss manage/lead?
Are you aware of the hierarchy of those around you? If in need of support, reach out to peer then manager then CECA support. Don't go above your boss.
If seeking advice, are you going to your peers?
If you have team members who report to you - are you aware of the difference between them and your peers?
Are you aware of the difference between the functions and their roles? i.e. the quality department serves a different function from the operations department which is different from the maintenance department.
Supervision
Who is your supervisor?
Are you appropriately reacting to feedback from your superior?
What actions are you taking to improve on your opportunity areas?
Are you going to your supervisor with solutions or problems?
When reporting recommendations - is this a small portion of your report?
Expectations
Do you know what is expected of you? Need to add value to the organization. After all, you are getting paid.
Has the organization made a good investment in you?
What are your expectations about the job and the learning?
